PREGNANCY

Prenatal Vitamin With Iodine and Folic Acid

If you are thinking of getting pregnant, actively trying, or you're pregnant, it's critical that you take a good quality prenatal vitamin that includes sufficient iodine (to support your thyroid) and folic acid ((to prevent neural tube defects.) You should start taking a prenatal vitamin at least several months before you try to get pregnant. Keep in mind, most prenatal vitamins include iron, so allow at least 3-4 hours apart from taking your thyroid medicine and your prenatal vitamin.

Pregnancy Test

When you're trying to get pregnant, an accurate test is critical. If you're like me, you'll be testing all the time (!) so stock up. My favorite brand is the EPT test. They're over 99% accurate in laboratory tests, and you can test as early as the day you miss your period. (Although I tested positive -- correctly -- 4 days before I missed my period using an ept test!)

BREASTFEEDING PROBLEMS

Nursing Tea

Yogi Tea has an excellent tea especially for nursing mothers. The caffeine free tea includes chamomile, fennel seed, stinging nettle leaf, anise seed, fenugreek seed, and lavender -- all herbs thought to help stimulate milk production.

Fenugreek

Fenugreek is an herb though to help stimulate milk production in a nursing mother. Nature's Way makes a good quality fenugreek supplement.

PERIMENOPAUSE/MENOPAUSE

Calcium

Most of us need to take calcium, but usually they come in giant, chalky "horse" pills that are hard to swallow. That's why I love these calcium soft gels from Now Foods.

DHEA

Many of us can benefit from low-dose, pharmaceutical quality DHEA supplementation. The best on the market is Enzymatic Therapy's DHEA, which comes in a handy 5 mg dosage.
